We tell our ‘farmers-in-training’ when they come visit on a field trip to “dress like a farmer”.  So, how does a farmer dress?  

An overwhelming response is ‘in overalls!’ and also ‘wear boots’ … everyone’s perception of what a farmer should look like is different.  It’s just fun to see what folks (especially kids) will say.

We have had many requests for a homeschool field trip day for our Spring field trip season. We are so excited to offer Thursday, April 5th as a field trip day just for homeschool families!  We would also like to extend this invitation to private schools with less than 30 students.There is no reservation required for groups under 30. However, if your group size is over 30 please go to our website, click on  the field trip link and make a reservation for a different date.

The field trip will begin PROMPTLY at 10:00 and end at 1:15. Please arrive at the farm by 9:30 in order to have time to come into The Back Porch Country Store to pay admission and receive an arm band, use the restrooms, etc.  If you are late you will miss an activity and we will not be able to repeat that activity as we need to stay on schedule. So, don’t be late!!! Make those kiddos get moving early:)

The format of the field trip will be exactly like we offer for our schools that come out to the farm. Check out the Field Trip link on our website for more info. You are allowed to bring in sack lunches, or you may choose to purchase our lunch special for $5- all beef hot dog, chips & drink.

The farm will be open rain or shine weekends November 25th through December 18th 12-6:00. Our nice sandy loam soil drains quickly and isn’t muddy, so don’t let a little rain delay you from finding your family’s Texas grown Christmas Tree! The farmers and your Christmas tree will be waiting for you! We always need the rain so count it as a blessing and get a little wet! Pancakes with Santa will not be cancelled due to weather either. The eating area is covered and heated and Santa has his own barn! Dress for the weather and make your list because Santa will be here!

Yes, we have been under a drought here in south TX, but no worries- the Christmas trees are gorgeous and GREEN! Thank goodness for drip irrigation! The farmers have irrigating all summer and with the recent rains all is well here at the farm and your Texas grown Christmas tree is waiting for you…

Real Christmas Trees ARE Beneficial to the Environment:-)

• While they are growing, Real Christmas Trees support life by adsorbing carbon dioxide and other gases and emitting fresh oxygen:-)
•  Farms that grow Christmas Trees stabilize soil, protect water supplies and provide refuge for wildlife while creating  scenic green belts:-)
• Real Christmas Trees are biodegradable, which means they can be easily reused or recycled for mulch or other purposes:-)

Artificial Trees ARE NOT Beneficial to the Environment:-(

• Artificial trees are a petroleum-based product manufactured primarily in Chinese factories:-(
• The average family uses an artificial tree for only six to nine years before throwing it away, where it will remain in a landfill for centuries after disposal:-(

We sale it by the cup as well as the packaged ingredients to take home and make your own to sip while cozying  up to your gorgeous REAL  Texas Christmas tree!
